Network Cable

A network cable is used to connect devices within a computer network, such as routers, switches, computers, and servers. The most common type is the Ethernet cable, typically using RJ45 connectors.

Common Types:

• Cat5e – Supports up to 1 Gbps, suitable for most home networks.
• Cat6 – Supports up to 10 Gbps (up to 55m), better shielding than Cat5e.
• Cat6a – Enhanced version of Cat6, supports 10 Gbps up to 100m.
• Cat7/Cat8 – Higher performance, used in data centers or high-noise environments.

Cable Types:

• UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) – Most common, cost-effective.
• STP/FTP – Shielded variants for noisy environments.

Wiring Standards:

T568A and T568B – Define pinout for RJ45 connectors.

Use straight-through cables for connecting different devices (PC to switch).
Use crossover cables for same device types (PC to PC), though modern NICs auto-detect.
