Connector Jumpers and Shunts

Jumpers: Small connectors used to close or open circuits on a PCB. They select between different configurations (e.g., master/slave in IDE drives).

Shunts: Conductive caps placed over jumper pins to complete a circuit. Often interchangeable with "jumper" in casual use.

• • Two-pin or multi-pin headers
• • Shunt slides over pins to enable connection
• • Common in BIOS settings, drive configuration, and hardware debugging
• • Labeled as JP1, J2, etc., on PCBs

Note: Always power off before changing jumpers. Incorrect settings may prevent boot or damage hardware.
