AC Motors
Definition: AC motors convert alternating current into mechanical motion using electromagnetic induction.
Types:
- Induction Motor (Asynchronous): Most common; rotor lags behind stator field.
- Synchronous Motor: Rotor rotates in sync with supply frequency.
- Single-Phase: Used in household appliances.
- Three-Phase: High efficiency, used in industrial applications.
Key Components:
- Stator – stationary part with windings.
- Rotor – rotating part (squirrel cage or wound type).
- Enclosure – protects internal parts and provides cooling.
Applications:
Pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors, HVAC systems.
